In summer 2026, between May and July, we organized a set of 4 in-person reading sessions with adolescents at our partner, Hamari Pahchan's New Delhi branch, to take them through each of the storybooks we'd developed, and discuss the same, in detail with them.
The sessions included guided reading, open-ended questions and reflection exercises. Each session also concluded with a sharing circle that allowed all of our young participants to build on their confidence in expressing their emotions and forming connections with their peers.
We also incorporated small interactive activities, including scenario-based discussions, collaborative group tasks, and journaling prompts, to encourage participants to apply the ideas explored in each story to real-life situations.
Rather than treating the sessions as one-way reading activities, we aimed to create an engaging environment where every participant felt comfortable contributing their own experiences and perspectives. Across the sessions, we observed increasing participation, with many becoming more willing to ask questions, share personal reflections, and engage thoughtfully with one another!
